  • What does the Quran say about the moon?

What does the Quran say about the moon?

6.Decoding the verses of the Holy Quran

Today we are going to decipher the Holy Quran and see how Allah has explained the moon.

    The Moon

The Holy Quran emphasizes that the moon is not a dying star, dimmer star or of the star family. It says:

“placing the moon within them as a ˹reflected˺ light, and the sun as a ˹radiant˺ lamp?”
    – Chapter 71 (Nuh), vers 16

The Quran has used the word “nur” and hinted at the fact that the moon is not radiating its own light.

These patches on the moon are known as maria - a Latin word meaning 'seas'.
Fig 6.1: These patches on the moon are known as Maria – a Latin word meaning ‘seas’.

    Ancient mythologies about moon

Moon has been a goddess of the Romans (Luna1) and Greeks (Selene2). According to a Hindu mythology, the moon is a storehouse of the elixir called soma, which gods drink. The marks on the moon are explained in various ways. Like The Eskimos say that these marks the ashes which were smudged by her sister, the Sun. Whereas the mantra believed that the dark spots were a tree. In Sanskrit it is said that a hare was taken up to the moon for protection, and the god smote the moon in the face with a hare.

What does the Quran say about the moon?

The Holy Quran says, in chapter number 17 verse 12:

“We made the day and night as two signs. So We made the sign of the night devoid of light, and We made the sign of the day ˹perfectly˺ bright, so that you may seek the bounty of your Lord and know the number of years and calculation ˹of time˺. And We have explained everything in detail.”

    – Chapter 17(Al- Isra), verse 12

We must first familiarize ourselves on the most recent scientific findings. The moon’s origin is mysterious. It is one of the enigmatic occurrences about which we humans know nothing. The moon is thought to be 4.5 billion years old, which is the same age as the earth. According to the most widely accepted view, numerous other planetary bodies were present when the Earth formed, about 4.5 billion years ago. One of the rocks crashed at an angle into the earth. This huge impact blew out one huge chunk of the earth in space along with some other small rocks. That huge chunk of rock, along with smaller rocks and dust, went into orbit around the sun, and slowly the small pieces coalesced into what we call today the moon. To elaborate: Allah took away moon’s light and kept the sign of the day- the sun. In another verse, it is said:

“They ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about the phases of the moon. Say, “They are a means for people to determine time and pilgrimage.”

    – Chapter 2 (Al-Baqarah), verse 189

It is the early phase of formation, the moon had a molten surface.
Fig 6.2: It is the early phase of formation, the moon had a molten surface. https://geologyscience.com/geology/formation-of-the-moon

What does Quran says about the splitting of the moon?

    Perpetual nights on the earth

Ask ˹them, O  Prophet˺, “Imagine if Allah were to make the night perpetual for you until the Day of Judgment, which god other than Allah could bring you sunlight? Will you not then listen?”

Allah has the power to remove the sun, leaving the earth in a state of darkness. Life on Earth cannot exist if the sun disappears. So the Quran might have simply stated that Allah has the authority to wipe out all life, nevertheless, if that was its intended meaning. But the interesting thing is that the phrase “if Allah were to make the night perpetual for you” is used here. We now know that it is not essential to take away the sun to create darkness upon mankind with the condition that life survives. For example, the moon period of rotation matches with the speed of its revolution around the earth; so that, it moves in its round by an amount that keeps its one face perpetually towards the earth. The other side that the humans never see is called as the Dark Side.

The Moon only shows its one face (the arrow that is pointing towards the earth)
Fig 6.3: The Moon only shows its one face. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/science/never-see-far-side-moon

Now in this verse, Allah says that He could make the arrangement between the earth and the sun in its circles, allowing the earth to turn as much on its axis to expose only half of the earth to the sun.

What percentage the Earth is water in Quran?

    5. Decoding the verses of the Holy Quran

Today we are going to decipher the Holy Quran and see how Allah has explained the percentage of water on this planet.

How many times did the Holy Quran use the word “Land” and “Sea”?

Throughout the many chapters of the Holy Quran, the word sea is used precisely thirty-two times. There are precisely thirteen instances of the term land. We can now determine the proportion of land and water on Earth by performing the following math:

The sum of 13 and 32 is 45. Therefore,

    The percentage of water =  ( 32/45 ) *100

= 71.111 % (About 70.8% of the surface is covered by water (Source: Pidwirny, Michael, 2006: “Fundamentals of Physical Geography”, 2nd Edition))

    The percentage of land  = (13/45 )*100

    = 28.88 %

Hence, the land to water ratio is proven in the Holy Quran

  • What does the Holy Quran tells us about iron?

    4. Decoding the verses of the Holy Quran

Iron is originally formed through the fusing of elements in stars. Iron on Earth arrived millions of years ago in the form of meteorites following a big stellar explosion known as a supernova, which occurs when a star’s lifetime is exhausted. But what does the Holy Quran tells us about iron?

“And We sent down iron with its great might, benefits for humanity, and means for Allah to prove who ˹is willing to˺ stand up for Him and His messengers without seeing Him. Surely Allah is All-Powerful, Almighty.”

    – Chapter 57 (Surah Al-Hadid) verse 25

Let’s decipher this verse of the Holy Quran.

    Iron and Quran

The word “created” is used in the Quran for things counted as Allah´s blessings to man, there are two things which are always mentioned as having “sent down”, one is water and another is iron

With the reference to water, admittedly, it could be justified because it is coming down when it rains is a visible phenomenon. But usage of word, “We sent down” for iron always had a question mask before it, until of course recent times when the origin of heavy metals came to be investigated by the scientists.

By its mass, iron is the most common element on earth, while it is only trace in the universe (0.11%). It accounts for 35% of earth ´s mass. The innermost core of the earth is 90% solid iron. The outer core (surrounding the inner core of diameter 6800 km) is liquid iron. So, where did all this iron come from? It must come from exploding stars (also called supernova). Iron is produced in the core of such stars, where the high temperatures – above 108 K – allow for the fusion of heavy metals. There is no other way of forming iron in the universe and the earth itself has never experienced any such temperature during the course of its formation.

Earth – layer by layer. https://www.snexplores.org/article/explainer-earth-layer-layer

    Early universe

There is known that the  early universe created hydrogen and helium. Both are very simple elements. Astrophysicists suggest that hydrogen was the first element to be created in the soup of sub-atomic particles after big bang (the big blast that created the universe). It has no neutrons. within three minutes, helium is thought to be formed. It has two protons, two neutrons and two electrons circulating its nucleus. After the creation of hydrogen and helium, the early universe cooled and expanded so much that formation of new elements was forbidden. So, the question remained, how and when did heavy elements appear, and specifically iron that has 26 electrons, 26 protons and 30 neutrons.Researches have shown that the creation of iron is only possible in the core of large stars, larger than sun, which are largely made of hydrogen and helium. When they have burnt hydrogen, they switch to burning their helium. At that stage they expand to several times their size and are referred to as “Red Giant Stars.” If they had sufficient mass at the start, they become supergiants. Nonetheless, when they have finished burning their fuel, they begin to contract. As they contract, temperature rises immensely. As the process of contraction continues, pressure builds up, and temperatures rise. With high temperatures and pressures, the process of nucleosynthesis is triggered and new, heavier elements are synthesized, iron being the last. (This cannot happen in our sun because it is not large enough).  Then the star explodes, scattering this all material in the vast space. It was this scattered material, which would have floated around it millions of years and which, attracted by the earth during is formationd period, slammed into it, and gradually, sank into its core.

To pick up a line from the Net for summary:

“The first four elements were present after the big bang. Elements up through magnesium were created in red giants. Elements up through iron were created in supergiants and the elements from iron to uranium were created in supernovae.” (http://www.haystack.mit.edu/Carbon and oxygen are produced by the processes of nuclear synthesis in stars via a delicately arranged process. At first, a star burns hydrogen to form helium.

Eventually, when enough hydrogen is burnt, the star contracts, thereby increasing the core temperature of the star until helium ignition takes place, which results in helium being converted to carbon and oxygen. This process occurs by helium nuclei colliding first to form beryllium 8 (8Be), which is a metastable nuclei with a half-life of 10-17 seconds. During 8Be’s short lifespan, it can capture another helium nucleus to form carbon 12. Some of the carbon 12 that is formed is then burnt to oxygen 16 by collisions with other helium nuclei…( and this process continues, until temperature and pressure are suitable for the synthesis of iron). At the end of its life, the star looks like an onion, as shown in the figure below:

    The unsolved matter

1 Distance The distances between the earth and nearest star is so huge that, no matter how long a time is allowed, the mystery as to how the exploding material landed on earth remains unsolved. The matter becomes all the more mysterious noting that all exploding stars will not scatter iron. Stars of certain size alone can synthesize iron at their core. The nearest star, for example, Alpha Centauri, is 4.35 light years away. That works out to 40,000,000,000 trillion m.

    (40,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

    km).

That’s the distance the stuff exploding from the star had to travel to reach the earth. To get to feel about the distance, look at the following image of the earth taken by Voyager 1, at some distance from the earth, as it traveled outward, but not yet out of the Solar system. Atronomically, the voyager ´s camera was more closer to the earth than two eyes of a tiny baby ant.

    1. Probability Dr. Nabeel suggested, the geometric efficiency can be calculated by the cross-sectional area of earth divided by the area of the sphere whose radius R is the distance between the star and the earth. So, radius of the earth = r; cross-sectional area of earth = П t2; radius of sphere = R; area of sphere = 4ПR2Therefore, П r2 / 4ПR2 = r2 / 4R2 = ~ 0That is, the likelihood of any material reaching earth from the given distance is zero.
    2. The exploded material had to travel in one direction alone encountering no other heavenly body on the way to land onto.
    3. When it arrived at the solar system – at last! – it had to escape the gravitational pull of the sun. But the sun is so large in comparison to the earth, that it is intriguing that iron could ever escape its pull.
    4. There is another mount improbable to climb. The earth is surrounded by massive planets like Jupiter and Saturn. Jupiter has 318 times mass of the earth. In fact, it is so large, it can accommodate all the rest of the planets into itself; and Saturn is 95 times more massive than the earth. One of their functions in the solar system is that they absorb into themselves, many wayward comets and other loose interstellar junk. So, they should have taken in all the iron entering into the solar system. But, mysteriously, the two massive planets Jupiter and Saturn have next to nothing of iron as their constituents.

So, isn ´the holy Quran word of God?

    A very puzzling observation

Now let´s take a look at the above mentioned verse one more time:

The statement,”Wherein is great military might” is an obvious meaning. Swords, spears, helmets, shields, ammunition and various other military things are made form iron. But the next phrase is interesting, “and benefits for mankind”. Bronze Age proceeded that of Iron Age. Bronze is easier to extract, is light, malleable, easy to melt and mold. But natural iron is more difficult to handle because of the presence of carbon. It corrodes so its product have a short life. But then people learned to make furnaces – over decades -humans learn to remove its carbon and alloy it with other elements, before they could put it to wider use.

Today, from ships to cars to high-rise buildings, thousands upon thousands of iron products dominate the metal market, and production of iron in millions of tons a year over the globe is considered a proud achievement by nations of east and west. Thus, the puzzle of the Qur’anic verse revealed 1400 years ago, claiming that “there are (other uses of iron) for mankind” came to be solved

    universal benefit

That said, it seems we are not finished with benefits of iron yet: iron is necessary for hemoglobin, transportation of oxygen around the body, conversion of blood sugar to energy, production of enzyme for manufacture of new cells, and for the immune system, there is yet another essential function of iron in life’s existence in the earth – unthought of any time in the past viz. sun’s radiation would kill life

    – humans, animals, plants – if not for the presence of iron in the earth ´s core, in two layers, in quantities necessary.

As mentioned above, earthis core is entirely iron. Surrounding i is another core (the outer core). It is also iron. Both the cores rotate which is other than the earth ´s rotation on its axis as a whole: thus there are three rotations. The inner core rotates in a different rotation than the outer core. The interaction of the two movements in opposite directions creates a magnetic field. This magnetic field protects the surface of the earth from the deadly solar radiation.

What does Quran say about the atomic number and atomic mass of Iron?

Iron was sent down from the space and Quran even talks about its isotopes
Iron was sent down from the         space and the Holy Quran             even talks about its isotopes

The term “hadid” in Arabic means “iron”. Iron is represented by the symbol Fe in the periodic table. It has an atomic mass of 56 amu (atomic mass unit) and an atomic number of 26. There are four stable isotopes of iron that exist naturally: 54Fe (5.84%), 56Fe (91.7%), 57Fe (2.12%), and 58Fe (0.28%).

If we do not consider Surah Al-Fatihah to be the first chapter of the Holy Quran, then Surah Al-Hadid is the 56th chapter. However, if we take Surah Al-Fatihah to be the first chapter of the Holy Quran, then Surah Al-Hadid ranks 57th. Let’s move on to iron’s atomic number. Al-Hadid is written in Arabic as “حديد”.The following lists the Arabic alphabet’s sequential and geometric values:

The Gematrical Values of the Arabic letters
The Gematrical Values of the Arabic letters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBmF6gkkmLo

If we add these value we will get the atomic number of iron:

    Iron – Quran Talk Blog

Although Henry Moseley identified the atomic number of iron in 1913, the Holy Quran mentions this almost 1400 years ago. Here, Allah provides us with the concept of isotopes. If we examine the surah’s location, we will find two values (which I have already explained): 56 and 57. However, the total number of letters in حديد will not change. Isotopes are defined as such. The atomic mass varies, but the atomic number stays the same. The Holy Quran also discusses their properties as well. Since each isotope of an element has the same number of electrons, their chemical characteristics are all the same. Regardless of whether we place Surah Al-Hadid in the 56th or 57th chapter, it will still be Al-Hadid, with the same content and with the same attributes. That’s how Allah explains the isotopes with the example of Iron in the Holy Quran.

    My final words

    The glorious Quran says:

Surat Fussilat [41:53] - The Noble Qur'an - القرآن الكريم

“We will show them Our signs in the universe and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that this ˹Quran˺ is the

truth. Is it not enough that your Lord is a Witness over all things?”

    – Chapter 41 (Surah Fussilat ) verse 53

Some people require only one sign, while others require numerous signs to embrace the truth. On the other side, there are others who, even after receiving thousands of indications, refuse to embrace the reality. The Quran describes these persons as:

“They are ˹wilfully˺ deaf, dumb, and blind, so they will never return ˹to the Right Path˺.”
    – Chapter 2 (Surah Al-Baqarah) verse 18

The Bible says the same thing:

“Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.”
    – Gospel of Matthew verse 13 of chapter 13

Hopefully, that was helpful to you and will assist you in strengthening your belief. You can also visit my other blogs:

  • Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj

    Are Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj humans?

I will recount one of the Prophet Muhammad’s hadiths, peace be upon him, from Sahih Bukhari 4741:

Allah orders you to take from among your offspring a mission for the (Hell) Fire.’ Adam will say, ‘O Lord! Who are the mission for the (Hell) Fire?’ Allah will say, ‘Out of each thousand, take out 999.’ At that time every pregnant female shall drop her load (have a miscarriage) and a child will have grey hair. And you shall see mankind as in a drunken state, yet not drunk, but severe will be the torment of Allah.” (When the Prophet Muhammad mentioned this), the people were so distressed (and afraid) that their faces got changed (in color) whereupon the Prophet Muhammad said, “From Gog and Magog nine-hundred ninety-nine will be taken out and one from you.”

That’s how we know they’re human and descended from Adam’s offspring. We also learned from this narration that there are a lot of them. They are so populous that, if we had to put it into a single calculation, it would be 999 versus 1 (999 ya’jooj and ma’jooj against one man).

    Are Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj caucasians?

No, caucasions are not ya’jooj and ma’jooj. Here are some reasons:

    1. First of all, the wall that is built would be broken down by Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj themselves, and nobody can cross it. As this hadith states this:
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“Gog and Magog people dig every day until, when they can almost see the rays of the sun, the one in charge of them says: “Go back and we will dig it tomorrow.” Then Allah puts it back, stronger than it was before. (This will continue) until, when their time has come (The end of this world), and Allah wants to send them against the people, they will dig until they can almost see the rays of the sun, then the one who is in charge of them will say: “Go back, and we will dig it tomorrow if Allah wills.’ So they will say: “If Allah wills.” Then they will come back to it and it will be as they left it. So they will dig and will come out to the people, and they will drink all the water. The people will fortify themselves against them in their fortresses. They will shoot their arrows towards the sky and they will come back with blood on them, and they will say: “We have defeated the people of earth and dominated the people of heaven.” Then Allah will send a worm in the napes of their necks and will kill them thereby.’” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, the beasts of the earth will grow fat on their flesh.”
    – Sunan Ibn Majah 4080
This makes it abundantly clear that when Allah wills it, the wall will fall down by themselves. Now, if we say that Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj are caucasions, then Muslims had fought a lot of battles against Russians (a Caucasian country). And when a war happens, of course the army has to cross the boundary walls. If Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj are caucasions, then Muslims have already defeated them several times and even ruled upon them.
                2. Furthermore, from the hadith that is narrated above, we got to know that Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj will be extremely large in number (so large that they will drink all the water) Here is another reference from chapter number 21 (Surah Al-Anbiya) of Quran ,verse 96:
“until Gog and Magog are let loose, and begin swooping from every mound”
In other words, they will be so large in number that they will come down from every hill. Caucasions aren’t very robust, populous, or able to consume all the water; therefore, it is illogical to claim that Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj are Caucasian.
                3. Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj will come down like swamps. What kind of caucasions are similar to swamps?
  • Hazrat Zayd bin Haris

Who was Hazrat Zayd bin Haris رَضِیَ اللہُ عَنْہُ?

Hazrat Zayd bin Haris  was the forth Muslim and first slave to have accepted Islam after Prophet Muhammad’s first wife, Hazrat Khadija رَضِیَ اللہُ عَنْہُ, Prophet Muhammad’s cousin, Hazrat Ali رَضِیَ اللہُ عَنْہُ and Prophet Muhammad’s closest friend, Hazrat Abu Bakr رَضِیَ اللہُ عَنْہُ.

Who is the only sahabi whose name is mentioned in the Quran?

Hazrat Zayd bin Haris رَضِیَ اللہُ عَنْہُ he is the only companion of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) whos name is in the Holy Quran. The Quran says in Surah 33, Ayah 37:

“So when Zaid totally lost interest in ˹keeping˺ his wife, We gave her to you in marriage, so that there would be no blame on the believers for marrying the ex-wives of their adopted sons after their divorce. And Allah’s command is totally binding.”

  • Why is it so easy to acquire paradise nowadays?

Why is it so easy to acquire paradise nowadays?

    An angle comes to you

Let’s create a fictitious scenario. You are seated in your backyard. The sun is starting to die, and it is already evening. The sun suddenly brightens and an angle comes to you. It offers you two options. Option 1: You can travel back in time to the Conquest of Makkah. Option 2: Accompany Prophet Muhammad during the era of ignorance. Which will you pick? Let me tell you something before you choose. At that time they were alone. They used to pray alone. They used to preach alone. They used to suffer alone. At that time, they were Islam. They were the pillars of Islam. Hazrat Zayd ibn Harithah رَضِیَ اللہُ عَنْہُ was one-forth of Islam. During Makkah, Hazrat Zayd ibn Harith رَضِیَ اللہُ عَنْہُ became the fourth individual to convert to Islam. They were by themselves at the moment. They were alone when they suffered. They were Islam back then. They served as the cornerstones of Islam. One-forth of Islam was Hazrat Zayd ibn Harithah رَضِیَ اللہُ عَنْہُ. It is aptly said that:

Be like a diamond, precious and rare, not like a stone, found everywhere”

You can now make a decision. You have the option of becoming the fourth pillar of Islam or joining the thousands of other Muslims once it was created. Once more, we live in a period when there are no real Muslims. We are in an era of so much conflicts and distractions. Islam now needs people like Umer, Abu Bakar, Ali and Usman. If one of us takes the initiative to repair even one Islamic organ it will seem as though he has done everything. It is quite easy to please Allah because of this. Right now, we have the opportunity to become the largest contributors to Islam. And the nicest part of this is that we are not alone:

    Surat Al-Baqarah [2:186-264] - The Noble Qur'an - القرآن الكريم

“When My servants ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about Me: I am truly near. I respond to one’s prayer when they call upon Me. So let them respond ˹with obedience˺ to Me and believe in Me, perhaps they will be guided ˹to the Right Way˺”

    -Surah Baqarah, verse 186

    You are the hero now

Now it is the time to reset Islam. Now it is the time to take Islam from zero to infinity. And if we have to do this then why not start with one or two. Now you will understand the hadith of Musnad Aḥmad 12579:

Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,

I wish I could meet my brothers.” The companions of the Prophet said, “Are we not your brothers?” The Prophet said, “You are my companions, but my brothers are those who have faith in me yet they never saw me.”

It’s our time to shine and do something that will become a cause of entering paradise (inshallah). wanna know how you can do this? Read this:
