  • What does the Quran say about the fingerprints?

Decoding the verses of Holy Quran

As of current estimates, there are around 8 billion human beings in this small planet we call Earth. But every person’s fingerprints are unique. Even identical twins, who share the same genetic makeup, have differences in their patterns on their fingers. But what does the holy Quran say about the fingerprints?

“I do swear by the Day of Judgment! And I do swear by the self-reproaching soul! Do people think We cannot reassemble their bones? Yes ˹indeed˺! We are ˹most˺ capable of restoring ˹even˺ their very fingertips

     Chapter 75 (Surah Al-Qiyamah) verse 1-4

Let’s decipher this verse of the Holy Quran

    Fingerprints and Quran

Basically, in Makkah, the non-believers used to say, How could Allah restore our bodies when we would become dust? Then Allah says that He is even able to restore your tiny structures, like fingerprints and the tiniest bones of your body. Now this is not a part of our discussion, but it is a logical thing: “It is difficult to construct a thing at the first try. But on the second try, you become trained, and it is much easier to build that same thing again.”

    Fingerprints – nightmare for criminals

The fetus’s fingerprints are generated during the fourth month of pregnancy. It’s much more interesting to learn that these fingerprints last a lifetime and never change, even after injury. The ten fingerprints on both hands are sufficient to determine a person’s identification, and this makes fingerprinting as a tool in forensic science and law enforcement.

    Why do fingerprints differ?

There are three fingerprint patterns: whorls, arches, and loops. Your fingerprint is formed by two main factors: your genes and the environmental factors. The genes give you the starting pattern of your fingerprint. But as your skin develops in the womb, random physical forces alter the pattern. A slight change in blood flow, pressure, and even the baby’s movements causes tiny, unpredictable differences in your fingerprints.

The pagans of Makkah and Allah’s reply:

The pagans of Makkah refused to acknowledge that Allah could bring them back to life. This verse was sent by Allah. The most amazing thing about this discourse is not that Allah can revive a man’s tiny bone, but rather that He can even arrange fingerprint tips in precisely the right sequence.

  • What does the Quran say about the development of fetus in stages?

Decoding the verses of the Holy Quran

The recognition of fetal development in stages has been a gradual accumulation of knowledge over centuries. But what does the Quran say about the development of fetus in stages?

What is the matter with you that you are not in awe of the Majesty of Allah, when He truly created you in stages ˹of development˺?

Chapter 71 (Surah Nuh) verse 13-14

Let’s decipher this verse of the Holy Quran.

    Allah created us in Stages

As we now know, there are different stages involved in the whole development process. First, the male and female gametes fuse to form a zygote. That zygote undergoes divisions to form an embryo, then a morula, then a blastocyst at day five of fertilization. Then the whole implantation process starts; the blastocyst hatches from the zona pellucida (a protective outer layer). The embryo undergoes gastrulation, neurulation, and organogenesis before finally becoming a fetus.

(I have a detailed blog on this topic, but here I am simply going to briefly explain it.)

    1. The first stage is the fertilization (the fusion of gametes). It is mentioned in a number of verses, like in Chapter 23, verses 12-13 of the Quran.
    2. Around Day 7-10, the embryo attaches to the uterine wall and resembles a leech in shape and function. It is in Chapter 23, verse 14.
    3. The somites appear, and the embryo gives a chewed appearance. It is in Chapter 23, verse 14.
    4. The skeletal system begins forming around week 6, followed by the development of muscles. It is in chapter 23, verse 14.
    5. It is around week 8 that the embryo starts to take on a recognizable human shape. It is in Chapter 23, verse 14.

    The glorious Quran says:

Surat Fussilat [41:53] - The Noble Qur'an - القرآن الكريم

“We will show them Our signs in the universe and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that this ˹Quran˺ is the

truth. Is it not enough that your Lord is a Witness over all things?”

    – Chapter 41 (Surah Fussilat ) verse 53

Some people require only one sign, while others require numerous signs to embrace the truth. On the other side, there are others who, even after receiving thousands of indications, refuse to embrace the reality. The Quran describes these persons as:

“They are ˹wilfully˺ deaf, dumb, and blind, so they will never return ˹to the Right Path˺.”
    – Chapter 2 (Surah Al-Baqarah) verse 18

The Bible says the same thing:

  • Allah says that He has created the heavens and the earths in six days contradicts science

    Science and the Holy Quran

The scientists tell us that the big bang is a process which has taken millions of years for the formation of the universe but the quran say that Allah has created heavens and the earths [1]  in six days. So isn’t it contracting to science?

There are various places in the Holy Quran where Allah says this:

Allah created the heavens and the earths in 6 days
    https://legacy.quran.com/7/54

“Indeed your Lord is Allah Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days

    Chapter 7 (Surah Al-A´raf) verse 54

    The Arabic word Ayam

First of all, I want to clear the translation of this verse.  The Arabic word used in the quran is ayam أيّام.  It’s a plural of the word yom. The one of its meaning is day but the other meaning of yom is also a period, an epoch. So here when Allah says He has created the heaven and the earth in six ayam, it actually refers to six periods, six epochs. So scientists today have no problem with the Quranic narration that the heaven and the earth were created in six long periods. Each period can be a million year or billion years.

The Einstein´s Theory of General Relativity

According to Einstein General Theory of Relativity, time is affected by gravitational fields, a phenomenon known as gravitational time dilation. The stronger the gravitational field, the slower time passes relative to a weaker gravitational field. This means that a clock placed near a strong gravitational source (like a black hole or a massive planet) will tick more slowly than a clock in a weaker gravitational field (like in deep space). So even if here Allah says six days, then these days are not equal to our days. For example, Allah says that the time in the Hereafter does not follow the same measurement as time in this world. A day with Allah is said to be equivalent to 1,000 years of human time.

“And they ask you to hasten the punishment, while Allah will never fail in His promise. And indeed, a day with your Lord is like a thousand years of what you count.”

    Chapter 22 (Surah Al-Hajj) verse 47

Hence, there is no problem in this verse. But it also tells about the time dilation. The scientific proof of time dilation only came with relativity theories in the 20th century.

  • The Forelock and the Holy Quran (science)

Decoding the verses of the Holy Quran

Abu Jahl (Amr ibn Hisham) was a staunch opponent of Islam during the early days of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) mission. He played a significant role in persecuting Muslims and attempting to suppress the spread of Islam in Mecca. Abu Jahl was the commander of the Quraysh forces in the Battle of Badr, which took place in 624 CE. Allah says in the Holy Quran:

But no! If he (Abu Jahl) does not desist, We will certainly drag him by the forelock a lying, sinful forelock”

    Chapter 96 (Surah Al-Alaq) verse 15-16

But what does the Holy Quran say about the forelock? What is the significance of “catching him by the forelock”? Let’s decipher this verse of the Holy Quran.

    TheForelock

Imam Ahmad recorded in his Musnad that the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:

“A servant is not struck by worry or grief but let him say, ‘O Allah, I am Your servant, the son of Your servant, the son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand (you have total mastery over me), Your decision over me has passed, and Your decree upon me is in justice…..” [1]

Although it may sound dramatic, we now understand that the forelock, which is concealed beneath the upper portion of the forehead, serves as the control center. It is crucial for guiding and managing human behavior.

The human brain contains four major lobes which are:

    1. Frontal lobe

    2. Occipital lobe

    3. Temporal lobe

    4. Parietal lobe.

The forelock (frontal lobe) and the Holy Quran
    https://www.truth-seeker.info/region-controls-movements/%0A

The forelock refers to the frontal lobe particularly what we call the prefrontal cortex. This area, right behind our forehead, is a powerhouse in the brain. It is crucial in decision making, planning, motivation, understanding the society norms, controlling impulses and making moral decisions.

So, yes, all the complex stuff that makes us “us” happens here.

    1. Musnad Aḥmad 3712

    The frontal lobe

The frontal lobe is divided into 3 major areas defined by their anatomy and function. They are the primary motor cortex, the supplemental and premotor cortex, and the prefrontal cortex.

    The Prefrontal cortex

It is situated right behind the forehead and is the biggest portion of the brain’s frontal lobe. The way it functions is related to the personality traits of the individual. Additionally, it impacts an individual’s initiative and judgment.

    The forelock and Quran

    Frontal Lobe Syndrome

A person with an injury to the frontal lobes in the brain can look perfectly normal but really struggle. The frontal lobes are often injured in trauma. Injuries to the front part of the brain can cause problems with higher-level thinking and behavior and can lead to personality changes. It’s important to understand the issues and to get treatment because injuries to the frontal lobe of the brain can cause a lot of difficulty with jobs and relationships. Frontal lobe injury can cause you to be impulsive and disinhibited. We all think things that we probably shouldn’t say out loud and we don’t say them because we’re able to inhibit. But a frontal lobe injury makes it much more difficult to inhibit things. A frontal lobe injury also makes it more likely that somebody’s going to do risky and unsafe behaviors. Often people with the frontal lobe injury don’t get other people’s emotions.

EEG (electro-encephalograph) studies reveal that animals and humans exposed to damage to the frontal lobe hemispheres experience mental deficiencies (The Frontal Lobe Syndrome). Additionally, it was found that any frontal lobe lesion alters the affected person’s normal behavior. In certain instances, this may result in criminal activity as well as a sharp decline in moral principles, memory, and intellectual problem-solving skills.

    The frontal lobe damage symptoms
    https://www.verywellhealth.com/the-brains-frontal-lobe-3146196

    Sinful Forehead

So, now what is meant by sinful forehead? Neuroscience has shown as that when people lie or decide to engage in questionable behavior, the brain cells in their prefrontal cortex work harder. Pathological liars have been shown to have more white matter and less grey matter in the prefrontal cortex of their brain than other people. Although several brain areas appear to play a role in deception, the most consistent finding across studies is that activity n the prefrontal cortex increases when people lie.

    When a person lies
    https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0306452221002980

But no! If he (Abu Jahl) does not desist, We will certainly drag him by the forelock a lying, sinful forelock”. The Glorious Qur’an describes the forelock of Abu Jahl as lying and sinful. It is because of this that it deserves burning in Hell.

You can check more: “using EEG and machine learning to perform lie detection”

    The dua of Prophet Muhammad

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to say in his supplication:

“O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant, my forelock is in Your hand (i.e. You have total control over it), Your command over me is forever executed, and Your decree over me is just.” [2]

This hadith explains that forelock is under God’s control and therefore the fate of a person is in God’s hands.
Hence, from the verses of Surah Al-Alaq (96:15-16), we can conclude that front lobe plays an important role in guiding and controlling human actions.

    2. Hisn al-Muslim 120

    The frontal lobe in animals

Because this location also serves as the control center for an animal’s motions, the scientists found that the animal equivalent of this organ is small and weak. In terms of architecture and functionality, it differs from its animal equivalent in that the areas in charge of behavior and speech are more developed and noticeable.

The cerebral cortex in humans vs in animals
    https://old-ib.bioninja.com.au/options/option-a-neurobiology-and/a2-the-human-brain/cerebral-cortex.html

    When we prostate

What are the Muslims symbolizing when they prostrate? The forelock serves as the center of control, and its prostration for Allah is an expression of Allah’s intelligent law. It’s possible that a forelock that bows down to Allah and moral behavior are related. Because Allah says:

“Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do”.

    Chapter 29 (Surah Al-Ankaboot) verse 45

    Summary

The frontal lobe of the brain controls a number of important functions, including emotions, self-control, movement, language, and rational thought. Frontal lobe damage may affect any of these functions.

  • What does Quran say about the placement of the Earth?

Considering the matter at a different level, the earth happens to be in a specific area in space where alone life can survive. Known as the “ecosphere” or since recently, “the habitable zone,” it is an area around the Sun which alone is suitable for life’s propagation. Had the eath been closer to the sun by a small margin, all its waters would be

in the atmosphere, and if away by a margin, all water would become ice.

Any planet which supports life must satisfy several conditions:

    1. It is not merely the earth which should be in the habitable zone of the solar system, but, the solar system itself should be in a specific zone – call it the stellar habitable zone. If it is, e.g. nearer to the core of the galaxy, life wouldn’t be possible. If it is too far away, then too it faces several hurdles.
    2. For earth to support life, it must be at the right distance from the star it rotates around, at the right speed and axial rotation.
    3. For life to thrive the star itself has to be the right size. If bigger than the sun, it would burn all life, and, if small, water would become
    4. The arrangement of planets plays its on role. For example, ifupier was inner planet, in place of Venu, life would be seriously affected.
    5. Even within the habitable zone, the cath-like planet has to be of the right size. If its diameter is bigger than the inner and outer

of the habitable size, life would have problems existing.

For any other earth-like planet to support life, it must have the same elliptical movement as earth. If larger, it would go out of the habitable zone during its rotation around the sun, endangering life on it.

    7. It should have a large moon, when compared to its size, and proportionately at the same distance, for tidal waves to occur, which are necessary for stirring the seas.

A Quranic verse of amazing content catches our eye:

    ( وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلْأَنَامِ ) الرحمن : ١٠

And the earth, He placed it for mankind.” (55: 10)

It may be noticed that the verse does not use the word, “created the earth.” But it moved away from the usual and normal choice of the word “created,” which it did in many other places, but rather, used the term “placed.” Since every word of the Qur’an is revealed, this sets us thinking.

To be sure, this happens to be another instance of the Quan preparing the human mind for discoveries of the future. That the earth is the place where humans live is a fact of unnecessary mention. The humans do not say to each other, for instance, that they live on the earth. So, we need to look below the surface to discover what exactly is meant by the statement that Allah created the earth for humankind.

And one is immediately struck by the fact that no other planet, near or as far as tens of light years away, could be discovered which appears to support life.

It is not only the coincidence that the earth itself is placed in an eco-sphere in space (a little away and life would freeze, or a little closer and life would evaporate), but, it appears that the solar system itself is placed in an area in the Milky Way galaxy, which affords development of life and its continued existence.

The list of coincidences that allow for existence of life on the earth is

long enough for a whole chapter. The fact that the earth is the right size to allow for the formation of an atmosphere, that there is abundance of water in it, that it is tilted at 23 deg. causing changes in seasons, that it has a moon close enough to cause tides, refreshing the sea waters, that it has an atmosphere thick enough to prevent penetration of shortwave radiation from the Sun, that it has the right mass for gravitational pull to prevent gases from disappearing into inter-stellar space, yet light enough to have an escape velocity which allow for rockets to rise up and go into space (larger planets do not allow that), that the Sun’s companion star is on the other side of the galaxy and not close as its neighbor to disturb the dynamically balanced stability of the planets, saving them from smashing against each other, etc. are all facts without whose fortuitous presence life as we know it couldn’t come to existence.

    The SETI program

The known part of our universe has 200 billion galaxies and on an average every galaxy has 200 to 400 billion stars. If every star has just a few planets, we have billion upon billions upon billions of planets in

have always been optimistic, and quite enthusiastic about finding life elsewhere, to prove that an Intelligent Being is not required to create life, but it can arise anywhere all by itself, given the right circumstances. Here on earth, some bacteria thrive in the environment of temperatures 360 deg. Celsius, so, why not elsewhere?

A program was launched during the second half of the 20h century to search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI). Radio telescopes (some as lage as 360 feet wide) were installed in several places to identify any intelligent communication arriving to the earth.

were any, that the earth bore an intelligent civilization, also brought no response from any area.

Doubts were raised, funding began to be reduced and interests waned.

Some went as far as to say that the whole idea was freak because life on earth itself was such a chance occurrence in which many unlikely events worked together, that a repeat anywhere else in the Universe was next to impossible. Harold P. Klein of Santa Clara University in California was quoted in Scientific American as saying, “The simplest bacterium is so damn complicated from the point of view of the chemist that it is almost impossible to imagine how it happened.” (We are not Alone, Walter Sullivan, Plume Books, 1994, p. 130).

Finally, the program was scaled down, and then, terminated in most places, because, as Senator Richard Bryan of Nevada said, “As of today, millions have been spent and we are yet to bag a single little green fellow. Not a single Martian has said, ‘Take me to your leader,” and not a single flying saucer has applied for FAA approval.” (Ibid) Interestingly, however, despite the complete failure to spot, let alone an intelligent civilization, or even a rudimentary one, Muslims have not lost hopes of life on other planets, within this galaxy or those beyond because the Qur’an said,

“It is Allah who created the seven heavens and of the earth their like; the command descends between them.” (65; 12)

Most scholars of the past have understood the above to mean that there are seven Earths, like there are seven heavens. Ibn ‘Abbas, a Quranic interpreter of the first generation has gone so far as to say that there are beings in those earths as there are beings on this Earth, but different.

Our main thrust has been, however, that the difficulties that the search for extraterrestrial intelligence has faced, is simply because of the uniqueness of this earth, as stated by the Quran.

  • What does Quran say about atom?

The smallest has a long history.

It were the Greek scientists, (or at least of those who are known) who first postulated that “all matter is made of atoms and empty space” (Steven Weinberg, Subatomic

    Particles,

    Freeman

    and

Company, USA, 1982). They also considered “atoms” as that particle which could not be further divided. Muslim scientists called it “dharrah”

(the littlest thing possible), a term which included a tiny, almost invisible ant, specks visible in air when a ray of light passes through a hole into a dark room, and anything smaller than that. The name has stuck, and today’s Arab scientists refer to the atom as “dharrah,” and “atom bomb”

as “gunbulatu dharrigyab” قنبلة ذرية .

The Quran often used the word “dharrah. For example (ch.4: verse

    ( إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَظْلِمُ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ ) النساء: ٤٠

Allah does not wrong (anyone) even by the weight of an atom

That the Arabs thought that harrah is the smallest particle which could not be further divided was used in a debate between two scholars Ahmad al-‘Abbas b. Suray and Muhammad b. Daud Zahiri (d. 298), who denied giyaas (analogy) any role in Islamic Law. Ibn Surayi attacked him, “You say giyaas is invalid in Law. Now, Allah said, Whosoever did an atom’s (dharrah) weight of good shall see it (on Judgment-day, and whosoever did an atom’s weight of evil shall see it (also)?’ [99: 7-8]. So, the question that arises is, what about deeds weighing less than an atom?” (Should you not use’

“giyaas’ to decide what their fate would be?)

Daud went quiet and Ibn Surayj won the hour. But it was only an hou’s win, because other scholars pointed out that dharrah was the ultimate indivisible particle, and so Ibn Suray was wrong in using the verse to prove that analogy was permissible in Law. (Al-Burhan fi Uum al-Quan, Badru- ddin Zarkashi, vol. 1, p. 485).

In short, to the Arabs dharah was the smallest, indivisible, matce particle.

3a. Splitting the atom For a long time atom was the tiniest of matter that was indivisible until 1897 when Thomson discovered that atoms were not one whole piece of matter, but consisted of a tiny particle as its constituent, which later came to be known as electrons. Following that

Rutherford made the major discovery in 1911 that an atom could not be a single solid particle. He concluded from his experiments that there must be a hard core at the center of an atom which was so dense that particles could not pass through it.

When rays were directed at it, they got scattered or were reflected back but did pass through the areas immediately surrounding the core. The

Fig.6: An atom. The central part is nucleus and the outer balls are electrons. In actual fact, the electrons

    central core (called nucleus)

space but was responsible for all the mass of an atom, whereas electrons had little mass, and seem to be spread far and wide. (Actually, between the nucleus and the electrons circling it, 99% space is free). The nuclear particle was called proton. His assistant James Chadwick discovered in 1932 that the core or nucleus of an atom actually consisted of two particles: protons and neutrons. (Fig.6)

The work was not to stop at that, and while dozens of

    sub-atomic particles have

been discovered since then, the search for the smaller and smaller goes on now in atom-smashers, or Particle

Accelerators. It might be added for further interest that it also discovered that electrons which occupy space at various levels around the nucleus can also be considered as clouds.

It might be added for further interest that it also discovered that electrons which occupy space at various levels around the nucleus can also be considered as clouds.

Of course, this brief account cannot mention the dozens of scientist, if not, hundreds, who made their contributions of the last century and a half towards the risk discovery of particles after particles that make up an at this point,

at this point, Quran mention about matter that could be smaller than an atom catches our eyes
